I have a problem Which I have had before but don't rememeber if it was a prob with my isp or if it was a prob on my end. I have a chat script that runs from the command line. Sorry I can't post it, I am using my Win98 boot. Which connects fine, when I give the ifconfig it will show me my {lo}op connection and my ppp0 connection and I can ping my DNS servers that my ISP have. After that though I can not browse the internet. I am assuming that my resolv.conf file is correct since I can establish a ppp connection. I have been very unsuccessful at getting Red Hats Internet Configurator to work at all. After checking the wvdial.conf I don't understand why. As a matter of fact it the Internet Dialer won't even launch. any ways any light on this subject will be helpful.
try pinging some hosts first (public) if that all works fine
make dns query like
dig linuxquestions.org
if that's ok than your net is working
also check your routing table with
route
and iptables/ipchains with
ipchains -L
I can't ping anything but my ISP servers and the dig timed out. I have tried reversing the otder of the nameservers but that did not help either. (that was aprevious problem with an ealier isp, the reversed nameservers) now my first night I was able to connect to my ISP and browse so i know it is possible. I know I had modified the files without backing them up and that there in lies my mistake. I do believ it is something small that I am over looking but I am not sure what. do you have any ideas?
Problem somewhat solved. I had not changed anything over the last couple of days but today I was able to connect and browse. I will try working with my ISP and see if there is any thing there. Thanks for the reply Noerr
I do believe that is what it was. But I have know way to know for sure since it was in there once and would not browse and then all of the sudden it did. I do beleive there was a problem with my pap-secrets file also.
