Internal email messaging in Linux - what to use?

Hello ,

Im making a return to the linux scene after a good year or so absence so im rusty as all hell and prolly back to square 1 when it comes to linux.

My question is about and internal (non-internet) mail server that will interface with M$-Outlo0k. Can it be done? If so how and how difficult- what distro? what mail server?

too mnay questions and not enough infomration. Let me know if anyone has ideas? Thanks fellas and sheilas

I'd use postfix/courier-imap/openldap or qmail w/ qmail-spp/courier-imap/openldap to work with Outlook. This basically provides you everything exchange server would... global address book, imap-ssl support, and both qmail and postfix are excellent secure MTA's.

Any distribution would do, but some might be more friendly as they may havbe binary packages for postfix and/or qmail. I personally use Gentoo with qmail.

oh ok cool - so try gentoo with qmail ... shall do.

But the interoperability with MS-Outl00k (lists and all that)? no problems there?
