Interfacing Linux with Netware via NIS

I am attempting (need) to configure Linux workstations to communicate with a NetWare server via NIS for login and NFS purposes. I can get the client to connect to the server and mount an NFS volume and see all the correct UID/GID mappings and everything seems peachy EXCEPT... The login process doesn't ask me for a password when I login with an NIS account. (Local ones like root work just fine.) Obviously, this won't do. Does anyone have any experience with this problem?

I'm using NetWare 6.5 and Debian Linux (sarge). Thanks!
