Interface problems
I am running Red hat enterprise WS 4.3 on Dell poweredge 850
I have eth0 connected to the internet, eth1 configured with multiple vlans. ex eth1.201 - eth1.223
Occasionally one of the vlan seem to stop responding to requests. To get the vlan interface to work, I will have to ifconfig eth1.vlan down, ifconfig eth1.vlan up is there any reason why the interfaces will stop working?

Could be anything like:
The module for the nic has a bug.
The vlan kernel can have a bug.
Here trying a newer kernel or older kernel can help.
SMP if using can be a possible cause if multiple cpu system. Boot in a single cpu kernel.
Goto www.kernel.org and read through the changelogs and see if any apply.
Contact the developers in the vlan kernel for options.
