Intel wifi link 5100 not found on sony vaio backtrack 4 vmware

Intel wifi link 5100 not found on sony vaio backtrack 4 vmware
I use vmware to load backtrack
I have a sony vaio with 5100 AGN wifi card installed in it.
I had tried anything to make my wifi work but always show no interface no wireless.......
I googled it for help for weeks and all i get was download the iwlwifi things and i already installed in it.
i even tried many other thing
/etc/init.d/wicd start
/etc/init.d/networking start
and everytime i type ifconfig it just show eth and lo and no wlan0 in it
everytime i type airmon-ng
there are no chipset interface and ...........thing (forgot)
I could find my wireless card name when i type ilg... something i forgot

The problem is,i think my linux doesn't reconize the card even i have installed the driver

Anything that i can do to make my linux reconize wifi link 5100 agn wireless card???

Thanks for using your time to red this.

(Sorry for my bad english)

I use backtrack myself but haven't tested in a VM.
I would say to check the 2 links I posted up.

The whole point of a virtual machine is that it doesn't see the real hardware. It can only access the virtual hardware, and in the case of VMware, the virtual ethernet card doesn't have wireless capabilities.

I had the same problem, so i just went out and bought a net gear usb stick and it works fine.

Kind regards DEX

There gotta be a way completely rational and effective for this cuz if the card reads frequencies from a thru g is cuz there's a solution. I have been reading for hours about this issue of the BackTrack 3 or 4 compatibility with link 5100 agn but without being successful.

h3atmach1n3 05-19-2010 06:34 PM

Intel Wireless Wi-Fi 5100 Card injection test is working OK with kernel linux-2.6.27-rc7.tar.bz2,
patchet with the latest iwlwifi drivers patch, wich enables packet injection for iwlagn.

In order to get injection working on Intel 5100 card download the latest linux-2.6.27-rc7.tar.bz2 kernel and patch the iwlwifi driver with the diffs from the latest kernel iwlwifi driver changes from Stefanik Gábor.

This is basically what i had found and i would like to know if this is true so that i can follow advance steps and continue with my procedure of using Backtrack 4 with all the programation (airmonn -ng,airdump -ng, airplay -ng and aircrack -ng).I don't want to be downloading a lot of software and patches cuz i have heard about it until im shure of what im using and what's gonna be useful for my purpose.

Any help will be preety appreciated.
Thanks .

hi!! there:

I had been following many procedures and knowing information about things that had to do with kernels. At the beginning i was using the BT3 without being successful cuz of an issue with the drivers kernels and many more being incompatible with my card so i advanced to download BT4 and im not sure about it but i'm in the same phrase "without being successful", so i will appreciate if i could received some help from you all please. (i had been pulling my hair to get this damn card working) .

When i type the command:

iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.

eth0 no wireless extensions

This is what i get so it seems it is incompatible but for shure with this installation of some drivers and by compiling them i will be successful of course if this is what i think.

ifconfig

That's more less the information i can provide plus here u make an entrance "JSChiwal" cuz i had been following ur procedure to receive some type of help.

I type the commands u provide me: (here we go)
