I'm new to this LQ site and posting my intro cum first query.
I'm a lecturer in Physics and a research worker in the field of Nuclear Physics. I have been using RHL for long and installed different versions in different machines. I develope/maintain different kinds of GTK+, X11, XWindows applications based on fortran, c & cpp programing which are of my specific need.
This time I've got a new machine: Pentium D 935, D946GZIS MoBo, 2GB RAM, 160GB SATA HDD.
I could install RHEL V3 (i386) with kernel option "pci=nommconf" and using "Legacy" mode for the HDD in BIOS. Now, the said mobo has an onboard 10/100 Mbits/sec LAN subsystem using Intel 82562G PLC device which is not recognized with the standard 'e100' or 'e1000' drivers. Can anyone suggest a possible way out (except using a pci ethernet card)?
I personally do not use 82562G. So, following is what I would do.
Documentations on Kernel 2.6.22 mention about 82562G. Docmentation/networking/e1000.txt
So, I would assume it is supported by 2.6.22 (but not 2.6.15, because of no docmentation)
Make sure that your penguin has a right kernel. (which supports 82562)
check lshw and see if any driver is attached to 82562G.
If not, you have to find the driver. (check all drivers and compile as modules), then lshw and see which one is attached.
Many thanks to KAZ. Earlier it was kernel 2.4.18 in RHEL (AS3), so I changed to SL 3.0.5 (CERN) which is having a kernel 2.4.21 and the problem is solved.
Somen.
