Installing SIS900 network driver and RedHat 6.0

I'm trying to install the driver for my onboard NIC. I d'loaded the SIS900.tar.gz driver and it contained a readme file and sis900.c and a tran file. Following the directions in the readme, I moved sis900.c and tran files to /usr/src/linux-2.2.5'drivers/net and ran "make config, make dep, make clean, make bgimage" ok. Then re-booted but Linux won't load eth0 driver at boot up!!
What can I do next?

I got eth0 to load my sis900 driver but
IFCONFIG eth0 does not show MAC address. It does show IP address etc.
I can ping my IP ok but cannot ping gateway IP.
Anyone got any ideas?
