Unhappy Installing Samba 2.2.5 + SuSE 8.0

Here goes:

I have just downloaded samba-2.2.5 tarball. I unpacked it and did "make" and "Make Install". However it installs it to usr/local/samba. I need it installed to /usr/bin. There is a package directory that contains a spec file and some dif patches for SuSE 8.0, but they arent working right or I dont know what I'm doing.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance!

I'm just stumped.

Why didn't you install it with Yast off the CD or a Suse FTP site, it would have then installed correctly for Suse's configuration files?

Because 2.2.5 is the latest version. The 2.2.3a is what I'm running now, and it was installed via YaST2 off of the cd.

I cant fine 2.2.5 in an RPM or on SuSE's ftp site. The tarball is all I have to work with.

I hear that, if you feel adventures you can edit the installation paths in either the config or make file, check the read me, install files for specifics, as an aside, I was reading a rundown on the proposed changes in 3.0, you'll be able to integrate a linux box into AD, looks very cool.................................................

do a 'make clean' and then reinstall with './configure --prefix command and point it to the directory you want
