installing mandrake 10 via peer to peer LAN from XP server
HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!! WANT TO INSTALL MANDRAKE 10 VIA LAN OF 2 COMPUTERS
I just got mandrake 10 cds (FIVE OF THEM) split from a dvd. so the RPMS are spread through cd 2-5 but can be combined by just dumping them to the cd>mandrake> rpm folder in a hard drive.
I did this and dumped the cds in a windows xp machine. (pentium 4)
DIALEMA: i want to install mandrake 10 onto my laptop(Amd 2000+) via the dumped folder by setting up a peer to peer LAN with my xp machine.
Tried this as i always network the laptop and the PC in win and linneighbourhood. Thats just as far as my networking knowledge goes.
So i made a mandrake 10 boot diskette for booting through a network and had a separate network driver diskette. > all went well until the part of choosing NFS \ HTTP or FTP.
I tried all with no successs. Could ping the laptop as it booted mandrake 10 but the install did not proceed!!
My XP machine does not have any FTP, HTTP or NFS servers - as far as i can tell. BUt I could Get Apache (no idea how it works) or run EFTP - a freeware windows FTP client/server program - by basicall trial and error.
Kindly assist me to have this mandrake 10 installed via network as i will have gained extra knowledge and a new mandrake that will hopefully offer the ACPI function that is greatly needed on my laptop.
Thanks
