First of all greetz to everyone!
Im new on the Board and this is my first post =)
(btw I'm a Linux Newbie and I'm frpom Austria ,so my english is not the best =) )

Today we had a Problem at our company with a router at an extern location.
Id did a Ping to the router and got ten or so succesfull answers followed by some unreachables, then again some answers and unreachables and so on.
The Router Problem is fixed by now but thats anyway not the issue!

The issue is that i did the Ping with my Win2k machine!
At the same time i did a ping to the router from my Suse 9.0 machine too (just for testing reasons)!
And the fact is that on the linux pc everything looked fine! Just succesfull answers without any losses all the time!
Why is that so?

Lets pretend we had only Linux machines in our office, then it would have been impossible to guess that fast whats the problem with the connection!

I could be way off on this one, but it sounds like that could've just been a cabling issue. Break in the wire, maybe a poorly crimpted end. Or EMI from something. Thats what I think that sounds like.
