I am fairly new to Linux and I am trying to set up the imap service. I have been told it should already be present and I am sure I have installed it during the installation process.
When I try to connect through outlook it I get the following error.
There may be server or network problems or your timeout interval may be too short.
Protocol: IMAP
Server: 193.39.45.93
Port: 143
When I try through outlook express v6 I get the following error
Configuration:
Account: 193.39.45.93
Server: 193.39.45.93
User name: backup
Protocol: IMAP
Port: 143
Secure(SSL): 0
Code: 800ccc0e
I have looked into the /etc/services file and imap2 Is configured to port 143 long with imap3 on port 220 for tcp and udp.
Local Mail does work, pine allows me to send to anyone locally, but not external to the box.
Can anyone provide me with some pointers of how to set this up.
I don't know about imap. But still....
Did you restart xinetd after enabling imap?. If yes and if you can't still connect to that port try putting a string like this to /etc/xinetd.d/imap
bind=your_ip
and then try telnet your_ip 143

Well, Sorry for the confusion. But either you restart or send a SIGUSR2 signal ( Some one told even USR1 works ). But I just avoided all the complication. Hope you are not running any nonstop services. In which case restart can be the easiest.
( But I don't know if this is the real problem or not )
