i'm just looking for a cheap and handy way to keep eyeballing my network stats i.e bytes sent and received.
so i've seen many people using ifconfig to lookup what goes in and out , on a specific interface.
however , the problem with that as you might already have noticed , is that the stats are being reset at around 4gigs. (at least that's how I see it happening)
so question is , how can i instruct a typical linux system to NOT reset the figures?
gkrellm is nice for this kind of thing, keeps track of your network stats and even breaks it out into daily, weekly, monthly. you can run the daemon (gkrellmd) on headless/remote stuff and have a local gkrellm attach to it.

Reason: fixed the name of the daemon

ok will give this a try , thanx
EDIT: WAIT a minute!
isn't this a GTK program ?
well the problem is i'm looking for an app that is terminal based and requires the least amount of dependencies , effiency is also important
so something in the token of 'top' would be greatly appreciated.
cheers
