Question Identical Linux FC 3.0 Machine Name and Windows Domain Name in the Network

[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
Dear All,

We have some Windows servers and a Linux Fedora Core 3.0 server in the network. All machines are connected with switches. The problem is that we have a Domain Name in Windows called "MOP". When we added the Linux machine we called it as "MOP" = Machine name and the machine was added in a workgroup called Mygroup.

Will this have any effect on our network? Will it cause trouble in our networking?

Do we need to change the name of the Linux box? If yes, then how can we do it (with reinstalling the entire thing)?

I am new to Linux and our entire ERP is on this Linux machine.

Please help and suggest.

Regards,

Yps

Can you be a little bit more precise what exactly do you mean with Windows Servers?
Active Directory Domain? So you created a computer account?

what does that mean? I thought it's a domain?
And if you added the machine? How did you do this?

If you really added it to A.D. then I won't change the computer (host) name afterwards.

See we had an existing Windows Domain called MOP where everyone logs in. We wanted to install one server and attach it through workgroup and not add it to the domain. We called this new workgroup as Mygroup and the machine name was set "MOP". While installing FC 3.0 it did not give any error that same name domain exists etc.

My question is that whether this identical name of Domain and a Machine of a different workgroup can cause problems in the network?
