I want encryption, but can't afford it

I would love to offer my website visitors secuirty for data such as their login information into the site. But I sipply can't afford the $350 USD minimom for a SSL certificate.

What can I do?

You can use OpenSSL to generate your own self-signed certificates. There is one caveat to using self-signed certs- the trusted CA. Most people visiting your site will get a warning about your self-signed cert. If this is for personal or internal use, then go for the self-signed certs. If you need a certificate for any type of e-commerce app then you might want to consider purchasing a cert from a reputable source.
