I only have read acces on remote connection
Hi there.
I have a problem which seems quite simple, but is driving me mad!
I will try and include as much detail as possible:
I have two machines linked together with a x-over cable, and both are running slack 9.1
Machine 1 is my "normal" desktop pc, it has a full install of slack 9.1, it has the static ip of 192.168.0.2 and (i think) has all the services i need running
Machine 2 is a lower speced machine, with slack 9.1 (minus x, games etc), has a static ip of 192.168.0.1 and will be my mp3 player.
i am not doing this in the sense that a lot of people do, ie the mp3 player can acces files on a server, i want the mp3 player to be the server, so that it is easier to upload files to it.
so far i have done the following:
Machine 2:
added a second hard disc and mounted it at /music in /etc/fstab
added the line /music 192.168.0.2 (rw) to /etc/exports
entered the line chmod 777 /music as root
Machine 1
i tried to mount it with the line mount 192.168.0.1:/music /mnt/mp3player but this seemed to take ages, so i did some digging around and entered chmod 755 /etc/rc.d/rc.portmap and this seems to have cured that.
Now i can view all the files in /music from machine one, but i cannot write them, which was the whole point of this, as in normal use the mp3 player will be in the boot of my car!
If anyone can help it will be greatly appreciated, and i can provide any extra info needed.
Also i am not afraid of the command line and/or a full reinstall!
