I am having net conection problems please help


hello im just getting into ubuntu 6.06 and i sucseesfully installed the cd so i have a dual boot pc now. how ever i can only log on the web with my windoze part of the pc. i dont know how to configure my ubuntu to recognize my kingston etherx kne20 isa ethernet card i look for conections and all i see is a dial up modem that i dont use for the web
i read that all ubuntu distros work with ethernet conections but when sudo ifconfig pppoe it sayes no device then would you like to run configmod i select yes and it dosent find the program configmod , to that extent so can any one help me please ? thank u very much

in ubuntu there is a command to setup your pppoe connection, it starts with ppp...I am not sure of the command but just type ppp and hit tab and try out the most sensible option. I think its "pppd"

well i went ahead and dug out a old realteck nic and presto!

thanx for the help unfortunately i have noideah how to go about reconfiguring a kingston kne20 isa pnp ethernet adapter so i just instaled a diferent brand a here i am its been said a world without fences should never bve closed behind windoze and gates lol

try going to Admin-->Networks

& setup all the details for eth0, if u have a static IP address.
Else if u have a DHCP enabled connection( Dynamic IP), just enable eth0 & it shud pick up ur Gateway address automatically...!!
