i m new to Linux. I have just installed Linux on my pc today. till nw i used to do work on windows. Nw i tried a lot to set the IP address in Mandrake but all in vain. So plz tell me hw to set this. I need an urgent response coz i m fed up of using Windows n its bugs.
For someone new to linux and Mandriva, I would suggest you open the Mandrake Control Center. You will need your root password. There are wizards on the Network and Internet tab. Basically you fill in the blanks with things like IP address, gateway address etc.
If you need more guidance, please state your physical hookup to the internet.
You can find MCC by clicking start --> System -->Configuration --> Configure Your Computer. You can also launch MCC by typing MCC at a command prompt.
The net in our college is provided through LAN. I've set all the things which r required in Control Center but still the network is nt working properly. One more thing that to connect net in our college, first v have to login in Cybernetra, then the net is started.
You are going to have to get in contact with the administration people at your college in order to get this going. I do not have any understanding of what "Cybernetra" is. This may be a proxy server, but that is just a guess on my part.
The college will have to supplly all information such as IP adderess, gateway, proxys, DNS. With that information, update the wizards. It will fly if you get all the information correct.
