Huawei E220: Can I accidentally change its memory?

Is it safe to be experimenting with a Huawei E220 3G modem (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huawei_E220) without risking changing something in its memory?

I can borrow one from a friend (with the purpose of trying to get one to work, so that I can get one for my own) if I promise that ey can use it without a problem (and preferably without having to reconfigure it in any way) when ey get it back. Ey runs Windows.

I think it will be (or else they wouldn't be selling it). The link you posted (thanks, saves time) shows that the internal memory (possibly containing firmware and dialer software) is presented as CDFS which means it shouldn't be easy to overwrite. The article also says it's easy to backup so if you have any doubts you *can* make certain though I doubt that'll be necessary.
