.htaccess file


Can anyone show me an example of a .htaccess file, i would like to set up my apache server to prompt users to log in.

Please help

Help!, I am trying to do a Basic Uer Authentification but I have the next problems:
- Don't know what permissions need the directory, .htaccess file and web
pages allowed in the directory
- Don't know some configuration for Apache Server

Note: I follow all the steps showed in http://httpd.apache.org/docs/howto/auth.html

Help

I have manged to set the passwords file and created the user groups file. In my .htaccess file i have configuerd it to look up the passwords file and the user group file and defined the request field, after which i had restarted apache just as it has been instructed on the apache documantaion page.
problem= it does not work, i have heard that i need to configure my apacheconfig file but i do not know what to put in.
Can anyone help

Hello abelsgmx

I am not 100% sure this is the answer your looking for, but i am under the impression that the .htaccess file should be in the directors of the web pages you would like to request authorisation for, when apache look into a dir it searches for the .htaccess file first.

Thanks for answer my question. I have the .htaccess file in the directory but I don know if the permissions for the directory and files contained in is 640, user apache and group apache?, when I put a 640 permission, a user and goup different to apache appears :

Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /prueba/ on this server.

when I put a 777 file property all users can see the page, in both cases httpd don't show the user name and password window, mabe one daemon is missing...
