I have a HP Pavilion 8754c with a HP Ethernet 10/100 card part number 5148-4725 in it. Install went fint with Linux. but I can not seem to get the NIC card found. I have tried all 3 HP adapters and a PCI clone adapter but none have worked. I keep getting that device cannot be located error message. Please help me someone. Thanks

this advice is gonna suck real bad:

1. call hp, find out what chipset is used and rebuild the kernel with the correct chipset selected for your network card

2. install a Linksys or 3Com or something you know is supported by the Linux kernel.

Robert, thanks

I have been using linux at work for quite some time doing a lot of TOMCAT JAVA stuff and doing some messing around with the linux kernal 1.0 on it at home but never tried networking it, until I bought a Redhat Linux 8.0 Unleashed book off of half.com for like $3. There wasn't much unleashing in the book about setting up the ethernet card and that is why I was so confused.
I was trying to avoid having to call HP because I didnt want to be put on hold for 40 minutes just to find out that nobody can help me. Well, that is what ended up happending. I got tired of this crap so I ran out to bestbuy and bought a new NIC card hoping that it would solve the problem. IT DID. It turns out that my HP card wasnt supported by Linux. for the record it has a Delta MPX chipset on top.
