Howto Configure a Private Proxy?

Hi,

I'd like to use my UK IP address from Italy; i.e. use my UK Internet Connection as a Proxy. I know I can setup a Proxy Server, is there any standalone device that can achieve the same effect (I'm asking because there's probably something built for this purpose and I don't know it's name!). If there is, and it's outrageously expensive/won't work aswell as an alternative that you know of, I'd rather know about the alternative.
I'm sure this info is already on the forums, or Google, but I've searched exhaustively and must be using the wrong keywords. Did turn this up though: http://www.vo1dmain.info/how-to-conf...e-proxy-on-vps which sounds like a reasonable alternative, albeit only for port 80 traffic (I was HTTPS, Flash, Shockwave, Cookies, Javascript, downloads, to work). I think I probably need to setup a tunnel to my router in the UK, basically, probably using putty?

I'll gladly elaborate if I'm not explaining what I need properly, assistance would be much appreciated .

you want a proxy... how does linux relate to this? under linux you'd be looking at squid. possibly in the guise of a firewall appliance like ipcop. you can run either on a very small physical appliance, a small fannless flash based mini-itx or nano-itx based system running on 50 watts or something.

Thanks, that looks excellent . With a bit more browsing I've reposted my question over at a more Proxy orientated forum; I posted my question here because as a Linux user I know that the level of expertise here is much higher than any other computing forums I know of.

if you want it to be secure you can either run squid over ssh or setup a VPN (OpenVPN.net)
