Well, I'll often include a link to something. Often questions are simply too large to be answered by a write-up - specially when they're in the region of 'My samba doesn't work.. why?'

Often I'll have a stab at why, and include links to samba docs so they can do their own research and maybe learn something in the process, aswell as know where to look to help themselves in the future.

On the other hand, questions like the originating one here get absolutely no help from me whatsoever. The author is just as able to look up suitable links as I am, but is too lazy to do any work for themselves.

Fortunately dhanraj is more sympathetic than myself..

Slick.
