How to join windows xp in samba domain

Hi
I am running Redhat Linux 9 and samba as a PDC.
I have joined windows 2000 in domain successfully
but I could not be able to join windows xp professional.
When I join xp in domain it gives error
"The specified user does not exist"
my computer name is xp and i have added the data base as follows:

useradd -d /dev/null -s /bin/false xp$
passwd -l xp$
smbpasswd -a -m xp

and for root account
smbpasswd -a root

What could be the problem? Can anybody suggest the solution.

Thanks in advance.

1. You do not need to have enter passwords for machine accounts.

2. Which XP version & service pack are you using ???

3. When you join domain, you have to enter username/pass for your linux box root account.

Are you following the same practice ?

Kindly go thru www.amitsharma.linuxworld.com/how_to_samba.htm , complete Samba PDC implementation have been mentioned here.
