How to get logs of different servers in Syslog Server's different directories?

Hello Friends,

I had setup a centralized Syslog Server in RHEL 5.3 and for now, just testing I tried it for only one client server, which is working fine. Means my centralized Syslog Server is getting logs from the client server.

Now what I want to do is that my centralized Syslog Server should get logs from all the client servers in Syslog Server's different directories.

And my all the client servers are also in RHEL 5.3

Please help me in this topic, I will be very greatful to you!

Hello,

I doubt that syslogd can do that. On the other hand syslog-ng is much more flexible and allows you to set destinations. Have a look at their site.

Kind regards,

Eric

Do RHEL 5.3 support syslog-ng rpm?

Hello,

Yes there are RPM packages available for example from rpm.pbone.net.

Kind regards,

Eric

Hello Eric,

Actually I cannot install packages from third party according to company policy. So, is that package is available on redhat website?

@Satyaveer Arya
*sigh*

Satyaveer, send your supervisor an email and ask your client to review the RPM for syslog-ng. Odds are *very* good that your client will understand, and give you a detailed procedure on how to install the RPM (or they will do it for you).

InfoSys, Wipro, or TCA?

Hello,

For as far as I can tell, it's not available in the standard Red Hat repos. I did see some mention in the EPEL repositories or are those also against your company policy?

Kind regards,

Eric

Hello,

Yeah I saw in EPEL repository. So, I'm looking forward to download the package from EPEL repository but before that I have to consult in my senior.

NB: Besides installing a package, you can also compile the open source edition on your own, put the generated binary syslog-ng at a sensible location, prepare a configuration and start it at boot time.
