How to Define VIP in Suse

I need to configure a virtual Ip address in addition to one I already have. I use to know how to do in in Solaris, but cannot find when eth0 is located and don't know how to configure eth1 with the VIP I need (for another instance of Apache server or WebSphere JVM...).

In addition: The primary IP is taken from DHCP server with the permanent contract. Does this play any role for static VIP definition?

I am very grateful; for any advise or reference

I don't do Suse but was a little confused. Is your primary interface eth0 or eth1? If the primary is eth0 then the virtual would be eth0:1 NOT eth1 as eth1 would be a secondary NIC.

On my Fedora installation on looking at this it calls this device aliases and specifically states it will not work with DHCP.
