how to create a domain name

hello everybody
i am newbie to linux and i want to configure my fqdn as there is no domain name present in my system.can anyone help me in creating a domain name

Edit /etc/hosts like this:
Code:
xx.xx.xx.xx host.domain.com host
where host is the name of your box
