How to connect or disconnect adsl

My machine is running Red Hat 8.0. At long last, I've succeeded in getting my dsl connection working. Now how do I manually connect or disconnect to my isp?

"ifconfig ppp0 down" at the prompt to disconnect and
"ifconfig ppp0 up" at the prompt to connect

You could also go to "System Setting"--->"Network"--->click on xDSL interface and click deactivate or activate

Sorry! I can't activate or deactivate my connection at the shell prompt; it only works through System Tools -> Network Devices Control ->...
If I try to run the command:
[root@localhost Samiyo]# ifconfig ppp0 up
ppp0: unknown interface: No such device

I also tried to su -

[root@localhost Samiyo]# su -
[root@localhost root]# ifconfig ppp0 up
ppp0: unknown interface: No such device

I want to get all commands to work at shell.

type "ifconfig" at the prompt and it will show what interface is installed on you machine. It's depend on how many NIC on your machine. Let said you have 2 NICs on your machine. "ifconfig" will give you:

loopback, eth0, eth1, ppp(x)

whatever ppp(x) is, that is what you need to use to activate and deactivate the interface
