I want to monitor other hosts (users) in the same network to see who is eating the net bandwidth in real time (per seconds), people suggested ntop for me so I have installed it on my new ubuntu 9.04 but I didnt know how to configure it to make my purpose
I have tried to read instructions and some tutorials of ntop though the net but nothing helped me in my specific purpose
So any body can help me from the begining ? because I am not a professional
While I am using windows I was using an application called switch sniffer but now I only use linux so I cant use switch sniffer any more.

NTop do it by it self.. Just a few thing to improve it

NTOP must be running on the router/gateway machine to capture all the traffic
If NOT... configure another machine in a bridge configuration and put just before the router/gateway.

Ones done. browse by the menus on NTOP and you will get what you want!

I dunno how to do that, I do have the router in my room.
The router have 4 ports, 1 port for me and 3 for other computers
I think there is no router/gateway machine

How to do that ?

It's not too difficult, just needs two ethernet connections on the monitor machine.

Most important questions:

A) Is your internet cable or adsl?

B) Do you have access to a dual nic machine?

adsl = 512kbs/128kbs
I dont know , what a nic machine?
all the computers is for the home use, mine is linux (ubuntu 9.04) and there hosts in the network are windows xp

Dual NIC means a computer with 2 ethernet ports.

In your case you place the gateway machine between the router and the other clients, you will need a switch for that. You then set the 'Default Gateway' setting on the clients to the ip address of your gateway computer, and the DG of that to the ip address of your router. You may need to have a DHCP server on the gateway i'm not entirely sure.
