How to configure linux for the internet??

Hii Everyone

Now here is the thing

I took a 2 hand HD and installed RED HAT 9 on it successfully.

Now i want 2 configure it for the internet.

I've an office were we have a linux server and windows machine behind it.Mine is the only linux client machine here.

What commands should i use to configure the following

1. IP address
2.submask
3.Default gateway

I know all of the above information as i run wnidows xp on another HD on my same PC.

Thanks

Fahad

for ip address u may use "ifconfig" command

u may also edit "/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0" for eth0. there r other files for other network devices in this directory..

for DNS u must edit "/etc/resolve.conf"
u must give a DNS server ip like this:
nameserver=192.168.0.1

u should check "/etc/sysconfig/network" file. u may give a default gateway record here like this:
GATEWAY=192.168.0.1
the following must be included:
NETWORKING=yes

u may check kernel routing table with following command
#route -n

also u may use this tool to configure network if u work in X (easyway)
#redhat-config-network

and a another easy way in console
for eth0 device type this
#netconfig eth0
