How to Attach files using 'Mail' or 'SendMail'

Using 'mail' from the command line, is it possible to attach a file to send to someone? I am not able to find this in the manpages.

thanks!

In slackware the mail client is a symlink to nail which offer the -a <file> option to send a file as attachement.
