Question how much traffic ?

i use redhat 8 with a cisco 1600 series router on a 64k diginet lease line. is it possible to see how much traffic i had in a day/month ? i only got a pop3 mail server and a workstation on the network but have a lot of collisions in IFCONFIG. why ? the data i get when using IFCONFIG, e.g. RX/TX/Collisions etc. how old is it and how can i determine when it started if its accumulative or in what time frame is recorded in if its not?

thanks!

Moving to Linux Networking

If you feel it be better moved to say Linux - Hardware, by all means contact the moderators of Linux - Networking and ask them to move it more appropriately

Good Luck!

I've got 1 response to your question:
I believe that the stats restart when you take down and bring back up (cycle) ifconfig:
ifconfig eth0 down
ifconfig eth0 up

HTH

Cool
