How ISP distinguish between Metropolitan and External traffic?
 

Hello,

I want to limit bandwith for my subnets
I have from my ISP: 10Mb for Metropolitan traffic and 4MB for External traffic. I did limit traffic for one subnet to 1MB. But this limitation is affecting also the Metropolitan traffic.
I want to limit to 1MB for that subnet for External traffic, but for Metropolitan traffic I want no limitation(to be able tu use all 10MB)

Do u know how ISP make this separation between Metro and Extern traffic? Maybe I can use the same method.

You've said nothing at all about what your ISP is actually providing you, or what your wan looks like in the slightest. I'd imagine you've got an MPLS wan which has an exit point for an internet uplink. on that internet uplink you would be throttled to 4mbps with the WAN itself being throttled at 10mbps. Just a guess of course.

the only thing you'd do is know your address ranges. your network = your private address ranges.
