Linux server Sharing file to windows/linus

I'm a :newbie: who would like do most, if not all in GUI. I'm using Mandrakes Linux 10.0. I would like to be able to share files like windows xp for read only and other set for public which they read/write. Without need of program on the host computer. If I need one on the server, so be it

:newbie:

just install samba and create two shares. One with read only and one that is writable.

Google "samba" and you should be able to find an enormous amount of guides

humm, I google it and found http://www.samba.org/ , then http://us2.samba.org/samba/ftp/samba-3.0.10.tar.gz download on Xp computer from home. then email myself using hotmail.com. Hotmaill.com said it had a virus and was unable to clean it. So, does hotmail.com doesn't like linux codes or is it true? Plus is there ant free anti-virus for linus?

I doubt it has a virus. Your linux install CD should have samba on it. There are anti-virus programs for linux, but I've never bothered installing or using one.

Do you know of any free anti-virus for linux?

Thanks!!!
