How do you switch the default ethernet adapter (eth0 to eth1)?
Perhaps this has been asked before, but I've had no luck finding any info thus far...
I currently have two network adapters, though I'm only using one of them for now. As it is, the one I'm not using is recognized as eth0. Now, I know that I could just switch my cable to the other adapter to have things load instantly, but that would be too easy and make too much sense. Currently, I'm just doing: ifconfig eth1 up dhclient eth1 in order to get things working, though I would like to how I can just load eth1 on boot and have it use dhcp. Also, I'm using Yoper which seems to differ from Gentoo on how this is done. Please don't say just switch the cable to the other adapter... I know I can do that, but I'd just like to know how to do it this way too. Thanks |
Put your distro in your profile... Better.
On Slackware, /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf is the answer. |
Yeah, I'm sorry about that, I should have been more clear earlier on. Just in case I confused anybody else, I am using:
***************** Yoper v2 (2.1.0) ***************** Again, sorry about burying that deep in the text before. Anyway, thanks for the reply, but unfortunately, Yoper seems to have its own way of doing things... I ran a search for rc.inet1.conf but found no such file. When searching for just anything with rc in /etc, I didn't really seem to find anything useful :( Mainly, I found a bunch of scripts; for example, /etc/rc.d contains rc.sysinit, but nothing where a simple edit to add in eth1 or anything would actually work. As an aside, outside of this crazy net stuff, Yoper is really nice. Anyway, thanks for your help thus far. |
Found out how to do it
Through some trial and error, I found that (in the case of Yoper) all you need to do is edit the /etc/init.d/network script and change all instances of eht0 into eth1. Fairly simple.
