How do you setup puppy linux for net

Well i installed puppy linux soley establish connection to my modem since my os on laptop went but now i need adapt to another os, so i chose puppy linux due simplicity and time but turns out puppy isn't as nice as she is.....

So far my modems communicating with puppy linux it's just i cannot establish connection to modem since it's being blocked i gathered was it built in firewall: nope

Was it proxy server: maybe since i didn't establish dns from my isp.

But i really want access to my modem so i can reconfigure it for net.

So any idea's, yes i've seen few tutorials and some jump straight ahead.

All i wanna know is what's best for establishing adsl connection.

P'S dont get me started on driver setup for network pci. any help will do thanks

Puppy net

Its not clear if you have used the Internet connection wizard that comes with Puppy. There is a 68 page manual at http://www.lulu.com/items/volume_71/...78_5560578.pdf
covers Version 4.1.2. See pages 65-69 on Internet connection wizards.

There are also newer versions of Puppy (I am using 5.2) If you are having problems with drivers, sometimes the later versions have a better handle on this.

Let me know if you need more, I will try to help. (But I know a little more about Ubuntu than Puppy.)

Um what's ubantu comapred to puppy linux.

Whats time line between them all and deos it comapre any different to linux on ps3.

Reason i ask is, puppy seems more like safety check and with it's limitations works wonders with:

html
xml
And other known programming that isn't to heavy on gui but lacks total support with other programs....

While im happy and greatufl for installing it

P's i worked out networking, it turned out being misplacing 192.1.168.254 in brownser when 1 was suppose to be behind 168

THANKS MR BOB22

Glad its solved

First, glad your internet connection works.

Ubuntu is one of the Linux distros, using graphical interface with Unity (the desktop) for operation. Its bigger than Puppy (in fact, I have run Puppy from USB stick and loaded and run it completely in memory on a VIA Eden computer with 512 mg ddr ram). But I like Ubuntu because its updated frequently, supported by a group called Canonical, and has very good support for the computer and accessories I have. (For example, I just plugged in my Epson 1400 printer, and hit the print button - I had no configuration to do at all, and it prints perfectly.) With some of the other distros, a little bit more effort is needed (but not really that much....) The installed library of programs has most of what I need (I plugged in my low-budget web cam and Cheese was up and running and making funny pictures right away.) So I have Puppy around for experimenting, using old boxes and the like. I use Ubuntu for video, sound files and general web searching. With newer hardware, you can install Compiz and have your windows bouncing around (not all that useful but really fun.)

Both Puppy and Ubuntu have updated versions, Ubuntu is now at 11.10 using Unity and Puppy is at 5.2 last time I checked. Take Care, MrBob22
