How do you mount a Windows drive?

Hi Folks,

I am a complete newbie who has just managed to get Samba installed on a laptop running Red Hat Linux 8.0. I networked the linux laptop and a Windows 98 PC using a Linksys 4 port hub (with your help). I mounted my linux drive on the Windows 98 PC and can move files using Windows Explorer. Yeah! Now I need to be able to access my Windows CD ROM drive from the Linux laptop. How do I mount that? I read the mount man page, but that left me in the dust. I can ping the IP address of my PC, so I know the linux laptop can connect to it. I just have no clue how to begin to set up the mount.

I greatly appreciate any help, and/or pointers to documentation that a neophyte could understand.

Thanks!!

Gene

Try somehitng like:
mount -t smbfs -o username=YOUR-USERNAME,password=YOUR-PASSWORD //mywinbox/share /mnt/winshare

Remember to make the mount point first.

Hi David,

Please bear with me, I’m green at this stuff.

What do these variables represent: //mywinbox/share /mnt/winshare

Is mywinbox – the computer name? Is share – the drive name?

Is mnt a literal? winshare?

Also, what do you mean when you say make to mount point first?

Thanks & Regards,

Gene

the //mywinbox/share means the location of the share folder in your window pc shere as the /mnt/winshare is a folder you create on your linux pc to mount the //mywinbox/share

regards,
ahshin
