How do I view currently attached network users prior to restarting our server?

Know very little about linux; need to restart server, but do not know if anyone is connected. Help?

connected as in "accessing services on your server"

netstat | more
(man netstat)

Actually, I was talking about possibility of viewing users that were accessing the shared files prior to dumping them without warning.

Try: lsof +D /top/directory/of/shared/files
This will look for any open files and lists who has opened them.
