how do i prevent the directory/file links from showing in the absence of index.*?


in apache, how can i prevent the directory contents from showing on the url in the absence of an index.* file on that folder as well as its subfolders?

Open httpd.cond and under the line where your DocumentRoot is defined:
<Directory "/path/to/DocumentRoot">
find the one that starts with "Options", something like:
Options Indexes FollowSymLinks ..
Remove Indexes restart apache and you're done
