Hi, finally got kismet to work (once). After I shut it down, my wireless didn't work, but I gathered from the many posts I read about getting it up and working that this was normal.
I rebooted, but now I have no wlan0.
I'm running ubuntu 9.04 on a eee pc 901.
ifconfig shows eth0 and lo. What other commands should I put here to give an idea of what's going on? (Sorry, I could probably put this in newbie. I'm still getting the hang of not-Windows.)
If you run "lsmod | grep rt2860" is the rt2860sta module loaded.
If it isn't, run "sudo /sbin/modprobe rt2860sta" to load the kernel module.
The problem might be that the kernel module isn't being loaded when you boot up. But check
if it is present first, before proceeding.
The module wasn't loaded, so I loaded it, grepped it again (found it), and then I rebooted since it didn't show up in iwconfig or ifconfig -a. Booted back up and still no luck. (Or did I do something wrong/have to load something manually?)
Code:
~$ iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.
pan0 no wireless extensions.
Load the module and then look at iwconfig. Don't reboot. First see if you can get networking back. Also look at "sudo /usr/sbin/iwlist scan" to scan for APs. If you see one or more, that means that your wireless device & drivers are working.
Report back and we can work from there.
