how do I communicate with Windows 2000

Hello

I have a hub at home serving two comps, mine with Debian and parent's with Windows on it. Windows comp. holds a number of files (most of which end in .doc) that I want to transfer over to Linux machine.

Is there a way to share files between Windows 2000 and Debian Linux?
And what software would be required for converting .doc into KDE readable format?

Help is so much appreciated!

samba lets linux share files and printers with windows. See www.samba.org for information.

OpenOffice is a suite similar to MS office that can open word documents.

Please do not post the same thread in more than one forum. Picking the most relevant forum and posting it once there makes it easier for other members to help you and keeps the discussion all in one place.
