How do I change the gateway?

I have a laptop with two netcards. I am currently trying to change my routers firmware, so I have a cable-connection to it via eth0. But I have a wireless connection via eth1. I would like to work on a telnet connection i one terminal window (via eth0) and at the same time checking the documentation on the web via the wireless connection. This should be pretty easy, right?

you would just use the route command to send the single address you want to connect to via the gateway on the other network. e.g. "route add -host 1.2.3.4 gw 6.7.8.9" to tell the system that remote host 1.2.3.4 lives past the 6.7.8.9 router.
