Question How do I automount a network filesystem in Linux?

Hi folks. I'm still asking questions.

I have my Samba server working and am able to access it from Win2k machines and mount appropriate filesystems from Linux. But I'm not happy about the prospect of typing in the mount command everytime I restart my system.

Can anyone point me to some sort of automount script-thingy (I am clueless about scripts except that they exist). I don't know where to put the script nor do I have a clue on syntax.

help...

You can put an entry in /etc/fstab for it.

This will mount the share read-write

Code:
192.168.0.1:/shared_fs /shared_fs/on_local_comp smbfs rw 0 0

Okay, this is what I have in my fstab:

192.168.1.1:/pub /mnt/netpub smbfs rw 0 0

192.168.1.1 is the IP address of my fileserver
/pub is the name of the share on my fileserver (defined in Samba)
/mnt/netpub is the mountpoint I have defined on my client system
the rest is direct copy-and-paste from the previous post

This does not work. I'd like to know why, if someone can explain. Also, I'd like to know how to set this up in one of my startup/logon scripts so that I can access the /home/username directory on the fileserver. From what I've read, the entry in fstab mounts filesystems for anyone who logs onto the client computer.

i'm also having the auto mounting problems!.
every time when i use mount -t... command it works, but sometimes after 2/3 retries.
so i decided to write a script and during the script execution the terminal windows hangs! :-(
i used to add lines to /etc/fstab and /etc/rc.local but the system itself hangs during booting.
everthing is working fine that is the w2k network.

ANY IDEAS!

THANX

if u add that line in fstab, and ure using x , u can make a shortcut 2 it , so that when u click on it it mounts it automatically. Hope that helps.

i just wrote a script to mount smbfs shares.
there are nearly >20 lines i.e >20 mounts bur it fails!
even if i execute a single line in a terminal ; sometimes it works but mostly it fails,if i keep
running that line >2/3 times oh! it get connected!
i want a haslte free method to automatically mount more than 20 w2k shares!

ANY IDEAS !

THANX
