Question How can I send a icmp message to a broadcast address

I am a rookie with the raw socket programming work. Now, I am told to make a program which sends an icmp message to a broadcast address. Which steps does my program need to send an icmp message through a raw socket? Could you give me some sample codes and tell me why it is? Thanks!!!
