How can I see my Linux server from Windows client machines?
 

Hi,
I installed samba on my redhat linux 9 version. W2K machines are connected to my linux server and I can access the files on my W2K clients from linux.
Is it possible to view my linux files from windows machines? basically to use Linux as a file server for my windows client machines?!

Hi, yeah I installed Samba and I did some configurations but I still cant see the Linux machine in my Windows Network.
I tried opening a UNC path with the IP address of my Linux machine like this:
\\192.168.6.1
but it says "The Network path was not found".

I added the IP address of my windows machine in my smb.conf file, to allow the host but it didnt work. How can I resolve this?

You might want to make sure that you're actually sharing something on the server. I've found that using Webmin to set up Samba makes for much less headaches. Might also want to make sure that a firewall(If you ahve a firewall running on either the client or the server) somewhere isn't locking you out.

Hi, you're right. Webmin is a great tool. But the problem was that the Samba Graphical package or something wasn't installed in my linux machine. I dont know why that had any effect because Samba server was running. Anyway, now Windows can access my Linux shares! Thanks guys!
