hot swap between two servers? proxy?

hi there,

i installed mandrake 10.0 when it just came out - and it worked all fine for months with no crash. basically the two servers (main and backup) are meant to be file servers only, which both run a samba server that offers it's content to a windoze network.

since 2 weeks, the main server starts crashing every like 3 days or so (as it used to when it was still a microshaft-server prior to my time in the company - i changed a lot of servers to linux, but this damn machine starts itching!)
main server: soft raid 5
backup: hard raid 5

what i am looking for now is an option that all clients (microshaft 2000) access the network folders at ip 192.168.2.nn, and the requests are directly forwarded to either of the servers, if the main server is down, then without any interruption, requests land on the backup so that the user is not aware of the crash.

what are the options to do so? any sexy tool to set that up, either under an operating system (linux) or the game console (windoze)?

i'll try to mandrake the crashy-thingie up to 10.1 to see if it works again stable.

i'd be thankful for any suggestion. eeeh, another challenge!

cheers, ciao for now
