hostname not being changed

Hi,

I set my hostname in /etc/hosts to cern2, however everytime I login the name is cern22 in the shell like:
root@cern22, where does it get that name from?

Well, it's /etc/hostname in Debian; it might be a bit different in Slackware. Maybe /etc/HOSTNAME?

The file /etc/hosts simply associates IP addresses with host names.

Hi,

You are correct for Slackware! The hostname is set in the file /etc/HOSTNAME.
