HostName: Host Name Lookup failire SuSE 9.0 DNS problem?

Hi --- I'm a SuSE 9.0 newbie and would appreciate help. Cuz I sure need your help

I just re-newed a domain name web server and the dns it is using appears to not be working properly - thus the web site is off the air. Before renewing the domain name, the server functioned; was visible, dns correct, etceteras.

To try to trouble shoot this I logged in as root to the web server and tried to launch the gui interface via startx command. After several minutes error:
HostName: Host Name Lookup Failure

Anyone: please advise

do
hostname
say, it printed out "host.domain.com"

and add this hostname to "/etc/hosts" like this:

127.0.0.1 host host.domain.com

i hope it will solve the trouble.
