home network help needed

Hi,

Could some one help me out.
I have a 4 port modem router (10.0.0.2)downstairs, My PS2 is connected with a static IP (10.0.0.15), I have a PC upstairs connected with a static IP (10.0.0.10) and it has a spare LAN adaptor with no IP set.

I want to connect another PC upstairs, but instead of another cable running downstairs to the router, can I link it to the PC with the spare LAN adapter ?

If so, am I right in thinking I'd need a crossover cable?

thanks

Yes no problem at all but you need to set the ip address of the 2nd NIC (eth1) to another subnet eg set the address at 192.168.0.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 . Set a gateway for eth0 to 10.0.0.2. The second box that connects to it set the ip address to 192.168.0.3 and same netmask and the gateway to 192.168.0.2. You need to install ip-masquerade to share the internet and also you need to setup ip forwarding on boot.
Read up on this protocol here
