Hi, Linux Network Gurus, Please help this novice

Hey all,

I have a Linux machine at gateway at home, it acts as a gateway to by home network.

It has eth0 and eth1, eth1 is connected to adsl router ( and i have ppp0 ) and eth0 is connected to a d-link 8 port 10/100 Unmanaged switch.

I do port forwarding through ip-tables and use this setup, to access internet form my subnets machines. all the machines in this subnets ( 3 of them were Linux )

but, last week i unplugged everything and did the following :

ADSL ROUTER ----> eth1(linux-gateway)
eth0(linuxx gateway) ---> dlink unmanaged switch
eth0(solaris 10 ) ---> unmanaged switch.

able to ping form linux-gateway-->solaris10 and vice versa
trace route gets the route with very first hop,

But all other services like ssh, telnet and ftp etc, just hangs at prompt and throws connection timed out.

Now the problem is that i can Ping solaris 10 form linux-gateway, and vice versa.

[chandan@chandan-gateway ~]$ ping 192.168.10.10

But when i try to run any other network service like ssh, telnet, it ends up in a connection timeout.

So thinking it may be because of firewall or something, i even disabled firewall on both the machines.

still no go, and still i end up with the same connection timeout.

a sample with ssh follows, note that i get the same error for telnet or any other service like ftp etc.

[chandan@chandan-gateway ~]$ ssh -vvv 192.168.10.10

ssh: connect to host 192.168.10.10 port 22: Connection timed out

Can anyone guide me whats wrong and how do i correct this, This is actually hurting me lot, I used to do lot of testing activity, on my home network and used to connect form office very often, but now i am stuck.

Please help me guys, Await for you guidance.

hi,

how about simple ping? traceroute? tcpdump?
and did you really turn off the firewall?
service running?

cheers.

Hi, Thanks for reply.

Yep it pings, and ping from both sides work well.

Trace route works well, and gets the route in a single hop as expected.

but apart from these all other services are timing out.
