Hi Everyone, quick apache2 question

I just installed RedHat 9.0. I get apche2 running smoothly. When I checked the version, it said 2.0.40 but there is a new 2.0.45 ver already. How do I upgrade it to 2.0.45?

should I just run the ./configure in 2.0.45 folder without the prefix? my question is that i don't know if it install to the original folder of httpd (red hat) or ...? because heck i only know where the conf locate.
Please any suggestion or hint would be appreciated.

Thank in advance.

wolfwolf,

Sounds like you really want to be careful and have this go easy with a minimum of hassle! Use the Redhat Network to update Apache. If you need to, just sign up, there is a free trial period. Other than that just change into the correct directory and rpm -Uvh apache-version#.rpm

Hi Jharris, I installed it from the RH source.

Hi Osfestus, can you clear it for me, if I am doing the rpm -Uvh apache-version#.rpm, it will scan for my httpd and upgrade it?

thank for reply guys.

yes, the -U parameter detects and uninstalls the previous version while installing the updated rpm. If you need to "upgrade" to an older version you can add an --oldpackage after the -Uvh. Like anything else, you should back up your config files before doing this just to be safe.
